DON'T MISS A SKIN EXAM, DON'T MISS A SKIN CANCER.

Common Conditions Treated

Eczema: The treatment of eczema is complex, and centered on establishing a healthy skincare regimen. This can sometimes be overlooked in a busy practice, but we feel it is of utmost importance to empower our patients with the knowledge necessary to both maintain their skincare and prevent flare ups of eczema. Such advice includes taking short showers, using only your hands and no cloths/sponges, mild soap, and not lathering your entire body. This will prevent the depletion of natural oils in the skin, and will maintain an intact skin barrier by not disrupting the top layer of skin cells. Moisturizing is essential, and the type of moisturizer you use could not be more important. Often prescription medications are necessary for occasional flare ups, but the goal is to not need them on a regular basis.

Psoriasis : Dr. Papantoniou manages Psoriasis, which can occur anywhere on the body, and can even involve the joints in some cases. Some patients with mild to moderate Psoriasis will improve with topical therapy alone, and some require Excimer Laser or Phototherapy to see results. The doctor also treats patients with systemic medications when necessary such as: Otezla, Enbrel, Humira, Stelara or Cosentyx. Psoriasis is a chronic condition that requires communication between the doctor and patient, and a solid skincare regimen for the best control.

Allergic Contact Dermatitis : We love a good mystery, and discovering what is causing a bout of allergic dermatitis is our specialty. We offer detailed detective work to try to discover what the most likely culprit is. We also offer allergy patch testing to assist in accurately diagnosing the allergen.

WE PROVIDE DERMOSCOPY FOR ALL SKIN EXAMS.
Skin Cancer Screening & Treatment: Dr. Papantoniou performs detailed skin exams for her patients, and will assess the need for a biopsy for skin lesions. For the average patient with no history of skin cancer or family history significant for skin cancer, a yearly skin exam is adequate. We encourage of patients with a history of sun damage, skin cancers or pre-cancers to schedule their skin exams every 3-6 months depending on the necessity. We like to make our patients feel as comfortable as possible during the skin exam, and stress the importance of these exams. No question is silly, if you think a mole is new or changing, please do not hesitate to schedule your skin exam. The skin exam appointments are made separate from other procedures because of the level of detail during the exam, and possibility of a biopsy procedure, this leaves the patient adequate time that they need for their skin exams.

Comprehensive Acne Care: Having had acne as a teenager and young adult, Dr. Papantoniou is very sensitive when it comes to treating her patients. Acne can occur at any age, and can be very different from person to person, and requires a personalized approach for the best results. We help to frame a healthy regimen, including cleansers, topical medications, skincare practices, dietary contributing factors, vitamin supplementation and sometimes oral medications. We like to pay attention to other factors which may make acne more resistant, and this could be and underlying condition of PCOS or something as mild as irregular menstrual cycles and hormonal acne. Once we have determined what factors are triggering acne we can provide the best skincare plan. Dr. Papantoniou does prescribe Accutane when she determines it would be beneficial for her patients. She has a long history of experience with Accutane, and believes that if administered with care the benefits from the treatment are unparalleled for nodulocystic acne or scarring acne. Accutane has changed the lives of the patients that have been treated, people who before were often embarrassed, had lost confidence, and feel there is no hope have been given the chance to have their clear skin back, a chance to not worry every day about how their skin is looking. Acne affects our interactions with others, it affects how we sometimes feel about ourselves, and it does not matter how old you are. We understand the struggle with acne and are really there for our patients, we want nothing more than for our patients to have brag worthy clear skin.
